Tullogher/Rosbrercon U12’S win Richie Young final for second year running.

The Richie Young “A”, “B”, and “C” finals were played last Saturday morning in damp and windy conditions. However, the wet and windy conditions didn’t dampen the performances of all the teams participating.

First off was the “C” final where a depleted Glenmore side took on the Rower. After a tough first half battle, the teams were level. The Rower used the wind to their advantage in the second half to win on a scoreline of 4-9 to 3-5.

The “B” final featured a clash between a strong Piltown side and Kilmacow.

Kilmacow had a number of key players missing but battled very hard throughout, however they struggled to keep the Piltown forwards quiet. Piltown ran out winners by 2-7 to 0-1.

The “A” final was a clash between the winners of their respective groups, Tullogher/Rosbercon (group A winners) and Mooncoin (Group B winners).

Tullogher/Rosbercon opted to play against a strong wind in the first half and started very well, dominating the opening plays. Tullogher opened the scoring through yet another sweetly struck close range ground stroke by Joe Malone.

Scores were hard to come by for the next ten minutes or so with Tullogher hitting a number of wides and the Mooncoin defence standing strong. Mooncoin also created some chances of their own during this period but failed to convert any of them. The Tullogher defence mopped up and cleared all that Mooncoin could throw at them.

John Murphy, Fionn Connoly, Adam Whyte, David Kennedy, Aidan Lawlor, JJ Ryan and Marty Murphy all played a massive role in keeping out the Mooncoin attack.

Next up on the scoresheet on the twelve minute mark was Jack Handrick with a fine point from the full forward position. That was quickly added to by the talented Niall Mooney with an excellent overhead point.

Jack Handrick was proving to be a major handful for the Mooncoin backs, causing havoc with every ball that came his way. He was rewarded for his hard work with another point before half time. Mooncoin scored a point from a 65 just before the half time whistle to make it 1-3 to 0-1.

The second half saw Tullogher playing with a strong wind at their backs which they used to their advantage. Ryan Murphy and Andrew Murphy continued to be dominant at midfield supplying plenty of quality ball to the forward line. Jamie Lyng, Sean Ryan and Niall Mooney were winning all the battles at half forward while Sean Power, Joe Malone and Jack Handrick were having great games in the full forward line.

Early in the second half, Jack won the ball from a long delivery and was fouled thirty metres out. Excellent free taker Sean Ryan converted the free to push Tullogher further ahead. Moments later, Jack showed true class when he created a goal chance for himself and buried the ball to the corner of the net. Marty Murphy was un-stoppable at centre back and capped off his performance with a great goal on 38 minutes while making a darting run into the forwards. He then tipped over a point shortly afterwards when Fergal O’shea played a lovely cross field ball in from the corner flag. The game ended in a 3-5 to 0-1 win for Tullogher/Rosbercon. Other players that contributed well on the day and have also contributed well during the group games are James Cummins, Kyle Cummins, Conal Tobin, Stephen Handrick, Kyle Duggan, Adam Arthurs and Phoenix Doherty.

Joint captain’s Aidan Lawlor and JJ Ryan received the trophy from the Young family on behalf of a jubilant u12 panel.

Jack Handrick received the man of the match award for a brilliant performance in the full forward position.

Thanks to the entire U12 panel for their hard work and dedication so far this year.

Thanks to all volunteers who helped out on the day and to those who kindly supplied sandwiches and cakes.

Thanks to all the parents for their support so far this year.

U12 Mentors are Michael Ryan, Jason Murphy, Tom Murphy, Enda Malone and Donal Cummins.

Many thanks to Jason Murphy for the excellent match reports throughout.

Round 3 report

Tullogher Rosbercon U12 qualify for “A” final of Richie Young tournament again.

Tullogher Rosbercon u12 hosted Rower Inistioge in the final game of group A on Thursday night knowing that a win would put them through to the “A” final of the Richie Young tournament for the second year running. A defeat would mean a playoff match to decide the final standings.

The Rower had drawn with an experimental Tullogher team only three weeks ago so it was expected to be a tight affair.

The Rower started the game well and opened the scoring after 3mins with a point from a free by Eoin Lyng.

That was as good as it got for the Rower as Tullogher totally dominated the game from there on with the Rower creating little or no futher chances.

In the sixth minute of the game, Joe Malone converted a goal chance with a sweetly struck ground stroke to put Tullogher 2 points ahead followed quickly by a goal from very clever lob of the goalkeeper on 7mins by Jamie Lyng to go three points further ahead.

At this stage Tullogher were piling on the pressure and were unfortunate not be a lot further ahead. Some wayward shooting by Tullogher and last gasp defending from the Rower backs were keeping them in touch.

Tullogher were rewarded for their efforts with a point over the black spot from Jack Handrick on the 15th minute.

Half time score was Tullogher 2-1 Rower 0-1.

Tullogher started the second half in similar fashion to the first with fierce determination, hooking and blocking and not giving the Rower players a second on the ball. A flurry of Tullogher scores came between the 32nd minute and the end of the game. The hard working Sean Ryan converted a great goal chance after creating the opportunity for himself in the 33rd minute.

Jack Handrick then drilled the ball over the bar for his second point followed by a long range point from the industrious Andrew Murphy in the 34th minute.

The move of the game came when JJ Ryan was moved from full back to midfield where he completely dominated the middle third and was rewarded with two excellent points from play.

Jack Handrick finished the game with another well taken goal to bring his tally to 1-2.

The match ended in a Tullogher win with a scoreline of 4-5 to  0-1.

No one person alone can be praised for his efforts as it was a complete panel performance on the night. The hard work by all on the panel over the last few weeks is resulting in great performaces on the pitch.

The panel of players is as follows: Andrew Murphy, John Murphy, Joe Malone, Fionn Connoly, Adam Whyte, Sean Ryan, Jamie Lyng, James Cummins, Stephen Handrick, Fergal O’Shea, Phoenix Doherty, Kyle Duggan, JJ Ryan, Aidan Lawlor, David Kennedy, Sean Power, Marty Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Sean power, Kyle Cummins, Conal Tobin, Jack Handrick, and Niall Mooney.

Thanks to all players, parents and volunteers.

Richie Young finals day is on Saturday 10th June in Tullogher with the “B” and “C” finals on at the same time starting at 10am followed by the “A” final at 11am.

All support is welcome.

Thanks to Jason Murphy for the match report

Round 2 17th May 2017

The U12 Tullogher boys travelled to Ballyhale for their second match in the Richie Young tournament  to play a strong Shamrocks team. It was touch and go as to whether the match would go ahead due to a deluge of rain which made the pitch almost un-playable.

However, the game went ahead and it was Tullogher who started the stronger and created numerous chances but unfortunately failed to capitalise on any of them. The deadlock was broken around the tenth minute with an excellent goal from Jack Handrick followed by great goals from Marty Murphy and Niall Mooney to put Tullogher three goals ahead. Jack also chipped in with a lovely point to make it 3-1 to 0-0 at half time.

Tullogher dominated the second half and could have had many more goals but for the heroics of the Ballyhale goalkeeper.

Tullogher did however score three second half points through Marty Murphy.

Ballyhale never gave up and battled hard throughout the second half and scored a nice point near the end with a rare attack.

Tullogher went on to win the game with a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-1.

Performances to note on the night were that of Kyle Duggan, JJ Ryan, Aidan Lawlor, David Kennedy and Sean Power who were completely solid in the back and gave nothing away, while Marty Murphy and Ryan Murphy were dominant at midfield. There was also great forward play by Kyle Cummins, Jack Handrick Niall Mooney and Conal Tobin.

Other players that contributed to the great win were Andrew Murphy, John Murphy, Fionn Connoly, Adam Whyte, Sean Ryan, Jamie Lyng, James Cummins, Stephen Handrick, Fergal O’Shea and Phoenix Doherty.

Thanks to all players and parents.

Last game in the group stages is against the Rower in the near future.

Thanks to Jason Murphy for the match report

U14 Roinn B Football Championship Final

posted 6 May 2017, 10:28 by Tullogher Rosbercon   [ updated 6 May 2017, 10:43 ]

The final of the football championship was played in Inistioge on the evening of Friday 5th of May against Graiguenamanagh.  Graigue played with the assistance of the wind in the first half and used the advantage to their benefit in a first half where Tullogher/Rosbercon were under constant pressure. Danny Glennon scored the first Tullogher point and this was followed by a well taken penalty by Jamie Lyng which kept Tullogher in the game.  Our final score in the first half was a well taken goal by Danny Glennon, with the half time score reading Tullogher/Rosbercon 2-1, Graiguenamanagh 1-9.

Tullogher began the second half in determined fashion and used the wind to apply constant pressure to the Graigue goal.  The major scores came for Tullogher as a reward for the pressure that they were exerting, scored by Danny and Marty Murphy.  Heading into the last ten minutes the game was there for the taking, unfortunately it was Graigue, who with a fortuitous goal, got on top for the closing stages and sealed a well-earned win with a further two goals and three points.  The final score was Tullogher/Rosbercon 4-4, Graiguenamanagh 4-12.

Congratulations to Graiguenamanagh and well done to the Tullogher/Rosbercon lads for their part in a competitive and entertaining game.  Well done also to the team mentors, Basil and Damien, for their effort in bringing the lads to a final.

Many thanks also to Paddy Ryan's, Listerlin, for hosting and feeding the team, mentors, families and supporters after the match.

Panel: JJ Ryan, Cathal Mooney, Conor Ryan, Pat Doyle, Eoin Kennedy, Callum Arthurs, Lar Murphy, Brian O’Shea, Michael Handrick, Marty Murphy, Danny Glennon, Jamie Lyng, Niall Mooney, Eoghan O’Dwyer, Dan Kennedy, Kevin Aylward, Dara Murray, Jamie Brennan, Jamie O’Connor, Fionn Connolly, Josh Quinn.

U16 Roinn B league

posted 6 May 2017, 10:15 by Tullogher Rosbercon

The U16 team played their final match of the league against Tullaroan in Thomastown on Monday 1st of May.  Tullaroan began well, getting the first score of the game with a point.  Tullogher were a bit sluggish at the start but their ability to take their chances in front of goal ensured that they finished the first half ahead.  The score at half-time was Tullogher 3-2, Tullaroan 0-6. Tullogher began the second half in determined fashion to maintain the momentum from the first half and the scores continued to flow with a good spread of players getting on the scoresheet.  Tullaroan continued to apply pressure and with two Tullogher players sent to the line during the closing stages of the match they scored 3 goals from frees but it was too little too late for them to salvage anything from the game.  Full time Tullogher/Rosbercon 7-10, Tullaroan 3-9.

The U16s’ finished third in their group in the league, a respectable placing given the quality of the teams in the group.  The mentors and club would like to wish the players doing their Junior Cert all the best in the upcoming exams.

U14 Roinn B Football Championship semi-final

posted 28 Apr 2017, 08:01 by Tullogher Rosbercon   [ updated 5 May 2017, 03:04 ]

Lads on cloud nine after great victory!

On 27th of April, Tullogher Rosbercon welcomed Piltown to Brownstown on a cool evening for the semi-final in the football championship.  Tullogher made the early running in what was anticipated to be a difficult game to win. With the wind blowing across the pitch and not really favouring either team Tullogher racked-up a respectable 1-3 and kept Piltown scoreless until about the 25th minute of the match when we conceded a point.  The scores at the end of the first half were Tullogher 1-3, Piltown 0-1.  The second was dominated by Piltown in scoring terms but a strong defensive effort by Tullogher made sure that every score conceded was hard fought.  The final score was Tullogher 1-5, Piltown 1-3.  Well done to all involved and best of luck in the upcoming final against Graiguenamanagh.

Thanks to John O' Shea for match report.
