Intermediate Hurling League

The intermediate team opened their league campaign with a 1st round game vs Thomastown in Inistioge on Sunday. It was very much a case of "a good start is 1/2 the battle" as some quick scoring by Thomastown in both halves yielded a total of 2-4 and the Tullogher Rosbercon lads couldn't make difference back in the remainder of the game.
Thomastown started with 1-2 inside the 1st 2 mins, a good goal from JJ Farrell after he ran 80 yards from his own half. Tullogher then got into the game with 2 frees from Cian and a score each from John Barron and Walter Walsh. Tullogher then lost Donnacha O'Connor through injury, though his replacement Kevin Hennessey had an excellent game afterwards. Tullogher then outscored thomastown ( 8pts to 5)  to lead by 1pt at half time. Cian had 6 further frees with Walter Walsh and John Barron(2) adding scores from play. T O'Hanrahan with 0-3 was starting to be the main threat from Thomastown. Richie Dollard was also lost though injury near the end of the 1st half and Ted Cullinane replaced him.
Halftime : Tullogher Rosbercon 0-11 Thomastown 1-7

The 2nd half started like the first with Thomastown scoring 1-2 within 4 mins. The goal being a scrambled effort from T O'Hanrahan. Tullogher responded with a free from Cian before Thomastown took control with a further 3 points from play. A great run by Walter yielded a super goal and brought tullogher right into the game. Cian who was flying on the frees added 3 pointed frees to level the match. A rather dodgy free from the ref saw Thomastown go back in front and another from play made it a 2 pt lead. Cian added another free but Thomastown finished with a point from play to win by 2pts.

Even though Tullogher started a number of very young players and losing 2 key players though injury they could still have won easily. Only 1 score from play in the second 1/2, a goal by Walter was also a key difference with Thomastown scoring 1-6 from play in the same period.
