Intermediate Championship Win

The Intermediates continued their winning ways with a 4th win on the trot. The latest victory was in the Championship Quarter Final against Lisdowney in Bennetsbridge on Saturday last. The lads won on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-13 against a fancied Lisdowney team.

Tullogher Rosbercon started off in very determined fashion with Walter being fouled after a great catch, Cian O'Donoghue put the free over  and quickley followed up with a super line ball to make the score 0-2 to 0-0 after 3 minutes, Liam Barron added another from play after great work again by Walter. Lisdowney responded with 2 frees before Walter added another point after a great pass from John Cotterell. It was neck and neck fro the remainder of the half, with Moling Cotterell, Cian O'Donoghue, Conor Hennessey and Liam Barron adding further points. There were a few dodgy moments around the Tullogher goal in the last quarter with Martin Roche bringing off an excellent save to keep the score at 0-8 to 0-9 at half time.

A feature of the 1st half was what seemed like a 6 man Lisdowney half-back line, most of whom were trying to mark Walter..

The second half started of with a great run from Walter who was hit hard by a lisdowney defender who was lucky to stay on the field, Cian O'Donoghue pointed the resultant penalty. Scores were drying up and there was no flag raised for a further 10 mins, Conor Hennessey got a great pass from Cian O'Donoghue and added a point, his 2nd of the game. Lisdowney added 2 fress and Tullogher responded with a great point from Brendan Lawlor.

Lisdowney seemed to struggle against a strong sun and had lots of wides in the 3rd quarter. In what was the turning point of the game Cian O'Donoghue kicked a great goal from the 14 yard line on the 45th minute and Tullogher Rosbercon went into a 3 point lead. Lisdowney replied with a point from play to reduce the lead to the bar minimum with 10 mins left. Tullogher Rosbercon were to finish strongest and with 3 super catches from Pat Hartley on the edge of the square  and with the young legs of Donnacha O'Connor, Cian O'Donoghue and Conor Hennessey, the lads weren't going to be denied. A foul on Conor Hennessey gave Cian O'Donoghe a free 80 yards out on the side-line which he "lobbed" over in typical Cian fashion and conor himself latched onto a low ball and finished the game off with a great point. A storming catch by Donnacha and a great run the length of the field kept ensured Lisdowney wernt going to get time for the equalising goal.

Well done to the team and management on this great win and making the intermediate championship semi-finals for the 1st time ever. The club had made it to the senior final in 1963 losing to Freshford and the senior semi-final in 1967 losing to Thomastown. The club dropped back to junior in 1968 as there was no intermediate grade in those days.
