Good Counsel win Leinster Post Primary Schools Senior Football “A” Final

Good Counsel College 0-13 St Mary’s Edenderry 0-11

Good Counsel College were crowned Leinster Post Primary Schools Senior A Football Champions on Saturday afternoon in Netwatch Cullen Park after defeating St Mary’s Secondary School Edenderry by 2 points. This was a close encounter from start to finish and the champions trailed their opponents by a single point at the short whistle 0-07 to 0-06. Good Counsel raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead in the opening quarter thanks to excellent scores from Brian Power and Jason Shiely, but the experienced Mary’s got back into the game with points from Jack Robinson, Sam Doran, Cian Farrell and Aaron Kennedy. St Mary’s also got off to a strong start in the second half to move 0-09 to 0-06 ahead but this time it was Good Counsel who showed their character with the impressive Thomas O’Connor and Shiely finding the range to put the sides level at 0-10 each and then pushing on to find the next three scores to win in the end by 0-13 to 0-11. This is Good Counsel’s first title at this grade since 1999

Donncha O’Connor had an excellent game at Full Back with a number of vital interceptions in the closing ten minutes.

Both Jason Shiely and Thomas O’Connor each scored Three points from frees and one point from play so 8 points in total from the Tullogher lads. it was also Jason’s 18th birthday so double celebrations
